If you have signed or plan on signing the GuestBook with a Hotmail or GMail email account, be aware of the security risks. Without your consent or knowledge, spammers are using your email account to add entries into the Guest Book. Their goal is to advertise drugs, sex or anything they can get their hands on.

In the Guest Book it appears as if you the email account holder submitted the comment. No one would ever know that the comment originated elsewhere. So they will blame you for the spam simply because the info is showing up under your name. We recently deleted three entries of this nature from our Guest Book. So if you use Hotmail or GMail, now might be a good time for you to report this sort of activity to your email account provider. You might also want to start looking for another email service in the event that they won't fix the problem.

Who knows what other evils are lurking in the dark?

Please read the information posted under 'Internet Security 101' for additional information on how to protect yourself and others.

BTW we blocked the scripts from ever having to do this again so we do not expect to see this happening any longer. At least not from any maliscious scripts.

We also recently upgraded the Guest Book to dissallow spambots or any other strange software from signing the Guest Book. That is how they are able to add spam. These are not people manually doing this folks. They let their software do all their dirty work. That way they can just sit back while the software add hundreds of thousands of spam for them everyday. Not only into guest books but forums, emails, mailing list, etc. It allows them to sit back and make a living illegally and at the expense of you the user.

But you can fight back!. Check our forums for answers or contact us for more help. You can also do searches in a good search engine like www.google.com

They also attack our Mailing Lists but since our lists are all moderated now the filth gets blocked at the very door.

For more information on spam visit http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/spam/consumer.htm

Thanks
Dave
